Hello all and thanks for checking out my first journal entry
Perhaps a bit of introduction is in order. My name's Brad, I'm 21 and live in Victoria, Australia (currently enjoying 40 degree weather) and I can't draw to save my life currently
If you're wondering why I'm on dA then, it's because I love art. I had an old account several years ago but had it deactivated. Before and between then and now I've been lurking on dA mostly but recently created a new account for a more important purpose.
For you see (if you don't, you soon will with the amount of text that's in this entry), I am an aspiring author. I recently had my first book published and have another three books ready to go, plus MANY more ideas to write! I'll put up a preview of the book on dA at some stage, but you can check it out at my website if you like (www.axis-trilogy.com). But I'm not here to shamelessly self advertise so much as to ask you for help. You see, ever since the first ideas for a story formulated in my head, I had a vision to turn these ideas, not into books initially, but into an anime TV series, something that I am greatly influenced by.
I realised that it would be impossible for an unknown, unsigned high school student to suddenly have their ideas thrown onto the small screen, so to speak, so I came up with a plan of action. I realised that there is more than one way to tell a story and I found that serveral of them could be applicable to me. Many animes are adapted from manga comics, so I thought to create a comic book first. I soon realised that, besides the face that I have no drawing skills, this may be almost as difficult to break into and it may be difficult to project my ideas to the inevitable artist I would have to hire. So, I took another step back. I thought, what CAN I do? Right here, right now? What's something I'm good at?
Then the answer came. Writing. Ever since first grade, I've loved to create stories, characters and worlds, and mostly, this came out during creative writing time at school. I've always been good with english. Vocab, spelling and grammar were always a cinch. So it was decided, I would write books. And, looking back on that, I think I made the right decision. It's been a lot of fun up until this point, with four books completed now, and more on the way, but my original vision remains. And so, the next step is adapting my books into manga.
However, while that is something I will most definately need assistance with, it is not quite what I'm after today (though any leads would be great). For you see, I have had an idea since the start to have my books be very visual, and include pictures that readers can relate to the story, and recognise when reading the manga and vice versa. I have a couple of these faved, thanks to my lovely artist
runawaywithyou.deviantart.com/ who contributed her efforts to the first book and I'm glad she did because I'm very happy with the outcome.
However, due to the sheer number of projects I (will) have (probably about 20 more), she won't be able cope with all of these while trying to pursue her own goals, not to mention there may be things I need drawn that others excel in (e.g guns, swords, elements etc). Therefore, I have been lurking around trying to find some more artists to assist with the books (and eventually the manga). At this stage, the level of commitment can be from one picture to one whole book or even as long as possible, whatever suits you. I just expect that if you say you are going to do something, you are going to do it!
Anyway, that's not what I'm after today. I thought perhaps a little friendly competition would be nice. That way I can see lots of different art styles and also how many people are interested in helping out. Prizes could be offered, maybe a year's subscription to dA or a cash prize and, of course, the 'winner(s)', I guess you could say, would have their art published in the book. But moreso, its not about winning and loosing but finding the right person(s) for the job. I was thinking of perhaps doing a collaborative artbook for those who don't have their art in the book as I really do appreciate anything anyone is willing to offer
.
Of course, any pieces you are willing to donate will reflect well on you and would be greatly appreciated
However, at this stage, I'm not sure if it's going to work, as in, if anyone is willing to enter it
So, for now, I would appreciate your thoughts and comments or if you want to register your interest, that would be splendid!
It'd be appreciated if you could spread the word too if possible
You can always note me or email me if you like for more info and whatnot (it's okay, I don't bite
)! If you want to check out my website for more on the books, the address is www.axis-trilogy.com - Here's to 2012!
